Mr. Sardonicus (1961)
Mr. Sardonicus
Unfortunately, this movie doesn’t have that much going for it. There’s actually some fun personal backstory behind it. I don’t remember what DVD it is (maybe Psycho?), but one of the trailers that would play before the DVD menu was this movie. I’ve seen the trailer a million times, and now that it finally came to Tubi, I was able to watch it. And be disappointed. I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece, but at least something moderately interesting. I think the thought process and ideas were there, but ultimately it just felt slow and boring. There was a lot of dialogue that didn’t seem to go anywhere, and the climax was weak and quick. The only big highlight was, obviously, Mr. Sardonicus. He was creepy and mysterious, while still being relatable. The makeup for his face was cheesy, but also kind of awesome. Very obviously makeup, but still awesome. It’s just a shame that he wore a mask most of the time. I can’t really think of anything else to add. The acting was bland, the story was bland, and the whole movie was bland. Not good, not bad, just…bland. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, unless you’re a die hard classic horror/mystery fan.
