V for Vendetta (2005)
V for Vendetta
This is definitely one of the best non-traditional CBM’s I’ve ever seen. When I say that it’s non-traditional, I mean that it’s adapted from a comic, but not a common one. For example, the comics that this is based on were distributed by DC comics, but it’s not related to the DC universe, such as Batman and Superman. I’m hoping that makes sense. You can compare it to other DC movies like ‘Constantine’ and ‘Watchmen’, where they’re a part of DC Comics, but not the popular stuff. Anyways, enough explaining. This was an awesome movie, and it’s a nice refresher in terms of mood and tone in a CBM. Most CBM’s nowadays are light hearted and humorous, whereas this was dark and gritty. It felt a lot like a Zack Snyder film. It was very similar to the feel that his movies have. Not necessarily his style, but the atmosphere he gives them. I loved the story, cause dystopian settings are always kind of scary and pretty realistic. I wasn’t a huge fan of it being set in England, but the change of scenery was nice (compared to America). I loved the cast, with great performances from everyone. Hugo Weaving’s voice acting is fantastic, Natalie Portman is awesome as always, and I was super happy to see the Time Lord himself, John Hurt. All the characters were great, each with a special role. There’s a lot I want to say about this, but I think you should judge it for yourself. There aren’t any crazy twists or anything, I just think you should experience it without knowing too much. It’s just very riveting. Overall, this is easily one of the best CBM’s I’ve seen that isn’t directly connected to Marvel or traditional DC superheroes (like I said earlier). I’d definitely recommend it to all drama/action fans. Trust me, you won’t want to miss out. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
