Top Gun (1986)
Top Gun
One of the most iconic movies of the 80’s, it’s fun to watch if you love aircraft and action movies. Although I’m not a super huge fan of the story, it still provides excitement. I love the use of the fighter jets and Navy, which gives the movie a heroic feel. However, the story might seem boring to some, as it doesn’t really seem to lead anywhere. I really love being able to see the training of a flight school, and it gives you insight into how the pilots prepare for combat. It’s really cool, as well as a bit educational. But like I said, I’m not a fan of the story. It’s all about the flight training, and the movie feels a bit slow until the pilots actually have a mission to accomplish. But, the flight sequences are very thrilling and gripping. They give you a rush of excitement and awe. They were really well shot, and the movie does a fantastic job of putting you right up with the jets. There were many great angles and shots used, which helps build the awesomeness of the flight scenes. All the characters are pretty great as well. There are a few I didn’t care for as much, but both Maverick and Goose are fun to watch. They bring a lighthearted feel into a serious movie, which was nice. I also really liked Iceman, even though he’s kind of a jerky character. But I’m a big Val Kilmer fan, so I’m biased. The music was also great. It had the corny 80’s/Karate Kid feel, so it has the retro sound to it. I also really love the inclusion of “Danger Zone”. It’s definitely one of the best songs ever used for a movie, and it’s become super iconic. Overall, I would definitely recommend this movie to all action lovers. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
