The Beach Boys (2024)
The Beach Boys
My earliest memories of music mostly revolve around the Beach Boys. I’ve been a fan since I was able to comprehend what music even was, and how it was made. So, when this documentary was announced, I was beyond excited for it. It definitely didn’t disappoint me, enjoyment-wise. I thought it does a great job of putting in enough history about the Boys in a little under two hours. Especially considering how much history is behind the band and its members. I’d like to think I’m very well educated on their history, so when it comes to critiquing this, I do have some complaints. There are definitely some important parts of their history that are barely touched. Of course, you can’t fit everything, but for example, it doesn’t mention a single time about Dennis or Carl’s death, until the very end, with only a brief message. It also doesn’t explore any of their work past the 80’s, acting like they basically stopped doing music after that. It should’ve finished out their legacy. I think that was the only huge hole of the documentary. Besides that, it’s very enjoyable, educational, and full of great music. I also liked how it focused on the band itself, rather than the individual members and their own personal stories. I’d definitely recommend this to most music fans.
