The Sum of All Fears (2002)
The Sum of All Fears
This is the fourth movie in the Jack Ryan series, and I very much enjoyed it, even more so than the first and third film. I still think Patriot Games is still my favorite, but this one seriously came close to topping my list. I really liked most of it, even though the story doesn’t always feel original. I think that many of the action flicks that include Russia as the antagonist definitely feel overused, but this one is still thrilling. The story was still fun to keep up with, and it had a great pace. It kept the movie fresh and new, even though, as I said, some bits of it didn’t feel original. But it was still exciting. All the action sequences were absolutely awesome, especially all the explosions and effects used. My favorite shot of the whole movie is when (minor spoiler) the bomb goes off, and you get to see the shockwave and effects of the blast. It was so cool to see. In fact, I actually replayed the scene because of how cool I found it. But the thing I loved most about the movie was Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan. I never thought anyone would dethrone Harrison Ford as my favorite, but somehow, Ben did it. He is seriously underrated in this role, and though Harrison is still the best, Ben is definitely my favorite. I also really enjoyed Morgan Freeman. The rest of the cast was decent, although none of the other characters really gripped me. The music was pretty good, though like the others, nothing super special. It was definitely prominent in the more exciting scenes, which is to be expected. Overall, I enjoyed this movie, and I definitely think it’s underrated. I’d recommend it to all action fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
