Office Space (1999)
Office Space
I’ll definitely say that this movie was (almost) exactly what I thought it’d be, which isn’t always a bad thing. It’s very cheesy and dumb, yet funny with a great story. I liked the path that it took, which helps make it enjoyable. The only thing I wasn’t expecting is how the movie actually goes somewhere with the plot. I was thinking it was just gonna be a movie about the day in the life of an office employee (which it is), but it adds much more to that. A minor spoiler here, it kind of uses bits of the same story from Superman III (you’ll know what I mean if you’ve seen both). But, it still feels somewhat original and definitely fun. The entire cast does an absolutely fantastic job, and it kind of has a combination of three things: The Office, Parks and Rec, and Best in Show. All the characters have their own different qualities and personalities that make them all different from each other. A lot of them are also very relatable, especially if you’ve had a job where you’re constantly around coworkers. I definitely saw a bit of a resemblance between Lumbergh and some of my own old bosses, so that made it funny yet aggravating. I loved the performances from Livingston, Aniston, Bader, and Root. The music was sometimes corny yet still modern, and though I hate rap, the inclusion of many rap songs was a great idea. Overall, this movie was pretty fun, though definitely dumb. I would recommend it to all comedy fans, especially ones about the workplace.
