About My Father
I totally meant to see this one in theaters, but when the time came, I never got around to it. Robert De Niro is one of my favorite actors in the history of everything, so that’s mostly why. After seeing some critic scores for this, I was a bit skeptical, but this was pretty decent. Most of the time, the critics are wrong anyways. This definitely felt like a comedy I’ve seen before, but all the actors do a good job of keeping it somewhat fresh. There’s a lot of things in this movie that you’ll definitely have seen in others. I liked the story, but nothing new. The cast did a good job of all playing a bunch of wackjobs. As mentioned, De Niro is the main reason why I showed up, and he did great. I love how he can go from movies like ‘The Godfather: Part II’ and ‘Taxi Driver’, to movies like ‘Dirty Grandpa’, and of course, this. Sebastian Maniscalco did pretty good, too. I absolutely loved the Italian presence that the two of them brought. I love Italian culture so much, so the amount of Italian references, traditions, and attitudes in this was amazing for me. Overall, this movie was consistently funny throughout (for me, at least), although it’s definitely not fantastically made or anything. I’d probably recommend it to most comedy fans.
