Damien: Omen II (1978)
Damien: Omen II
I really don’t have too much to say about this one, because it lacks so much, but also gives just enough to be a tad bit entertaining. I think this is a rare case where it’s a sequel that is neither needed or unneeded. I’ve seen some necessary sequels, and of course, some that are just horrible and useless. Strangely, this one isn’t either of those. If it wasn’t made, then it leaves an ambiguous ending for the first movie, and you’re left mystified by what could happen next in the life of Damien. But since this was made, you get that answer, and it helps continue his journey with his family and life. If it was up to me, I don’t think it should’ve been made, but I understand why it was. Story-wise, it doesn’t really offer anything new to the characters or overall storyline. It’s basically just Damien learning who he is, and what he can do. That’s about it. You get a decent look into his upbringing and surroundings, but that’s about it. I don’t think the writing was all that great, but it’s just enough to make this watchable. The acting was pretty crappy, though. No disrespect towards the cast, but everything was so exaggerated and overdone. That goes for the characters as well. They were either really bland or just eccentric and not good. I will say that all the death scenes were pretty cool, much like the first movie. Almost in a ‘Final Destination’ style. Overall, this movie is mediocre at best, and a big step down from the first movie. But, I think it provides just enough to keep you (somewhat) interested. I don’t think I’d recommend it though, nor would I watch it again.
