Speak No Evil (2024)
I haven’t seen the original Danish version of this yet, so I technically can’t compare this to it yet. But, I’m glad I didn’t watch it, because I want to be able to give an unbiased opinion. This was a very solid remake, with awesome performances and thrilling moments. Off the bat, James McAvoy is the soul of the movie, in good and bad ways. This might be one of my favorite performances of his. The way he’s able to create the most unsettling feeling ever, but in the next scene, you think he’s your friend. His emotional flip flopping and facial expressions are so good. He’s not gonna get nominated for an Oscar, but personally, I may have to nominate him for the Berry Awards. It’s riveting and creepy, and I absolutely loved it. Every second he was on screen, I had no idea what was gonna happen, and my heart was racing. It’s comparable to when Homelander or Hannibal Lector is on screen. That feeling of impending doom that may or may not happen. All the rest of the cast were amazing as well, especially the kids. The writing wasn’t super great though, especially with the characters and main storyline. The protagonists were all extremely stupid, and kind of unbearable sometimes. The performances were great, but the characters themselves weren’t the best. The plot also felt like it lacked a certain level of mystery. I was wondering why certain things were happening, but it didn't lead up to much. The plot is basically just a vacation that turns deadly. Nothing special, but still very fun. I’m gonna leave it here so I don’t give much more away. It’s a very fun movie that you should go see in theaters. It blends slow burn, psychological horror with a little bit of comedy. The story is a little slow and sometimes bland, but the pacing is great, and I love the slow sense of terror creeping up on you. I’d recommend this to most horror fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
