Superman (1978)
Superman
This is the greatest superhero movie ever made, go debate your grandmother. It's easily the best Superman movies made, I really enjoyed this one, as well as Christopher Reeve. Watching his performance was amazing, and I’m convinced that he is Superman. And I mean, he IS Superman. Although Henry Cavill is still my favorite, there is no doubt that Reeve is hands down the greatest Superman of all time. He brought so much energy and flashiness to the role, and unlike Cavill, Reeve was able to bring a happy-go-lucky image to the role. Reeve is also so perfectly cast as Clark Kent, because he is able to portray his awkward and nerdy side so well. The rest of the cast was pretty good too, and I also really loved Jackie Cooper. The overall story was really good, and I loved watching Lex Luthor’s evil master plan unfold, which almost made this movie feel like a Bond film. The special effects were also really good for a late 70’s movie, and even though they were sometimes cheesy, they were still really well done. The sets were also amazing (especially Krypton’s), and the use of model houses in the flood scenes were awesome. And don’t even get me started on the score. I would say this is arguably one of the greatest scores of all time, and Superman’s main theme is, in my opinion, the greatest superhero theme ever written. I still enjoy some of the other superhero themes more than this one, but John Williams delivered a masterpiece of writing. I literally tear up every time I hear his main theme, because of how beautifully it’s composed. The climactic build-up, followed by the brass section and the chords of the horns/low brass is so gorgeous. Anyways, it’s easily one of the best soundtracks of all time. I would most definitely recommend this one to all comic book fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
