Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
As well made as this movie was, I definitely felt myself getting very bored at times. I had always heard really good things about it, so I think I got my expectations a little too high. It’s definitely not bad, it just felt pretty slow to me. I really loved the story and characters, and how they all fit into one. What I mean by that is how it was hard to separate the characters from their actions and decisions, if that makes sense. It sounds good in my head. I guess to state it simply, the characters fit into the story like puzzle pieces, with both things using each other to make one big picture. It worked very well. However, despite that, the whole thing felt dreadfully slow, and it definitely took several minutes to get into it. And even once I did, it was still hard to pay attention. The performances definitely captured my eye though, especially from Audrey Hepburn. She’s always the spotlight of every scene. Her natural beauty is enough to make any movie great. A young George Peppard was fun to see, the one and only Buddy Ebsen had a cool appearance, and of course, the legend himself, Mickey Rooney. Unfortunately, his character may be considered racist, but you can’t help but laugh at his performance. The score, for me, was the highlight of the movie. Henry Mancini is such a talented musician and writer, and his genius is present in this movie. The whole score is just about perfect, and especially Moon River. That song is so beautiful, and perfect for the movie. Overall, this movie was very well made, though I just got bored for several bits. I’d definitely recommend it if you like romance and comedies, and obviously, old Hollywood. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
