Blue Beetle (2023)
Blue Beetle
Yeah, so this has definitely gone down as one of my favorite DC movies ever. Easily. Cause if you’ve seen this, then hopefully you realize why. Now, I definitely think there are some cliche moments, much like a lot of superhero origin movies. But, it still makes it its own thing, and it’s a rollercoaster of emotion and straight up fun. I’m also really glad that Blue Beetle has gotten his own movie, because not a whole lot of people are familiar with the character, including myself. This movie is such a great introduction, and I’m still thinking about it. I also love how even though it's a comic book movie, it still feels very much like science fiction. Everything about it is just so freaking awesome. The story was great, and like I stated about some cliches, some of it feels familiar, but the majority is new and fresh. I love the Latino representation that this movie portrays. It’s really nice to see superhero movies explore cultures not often shown. In fact, after watching this, I guarantee you that you’ll want to be a part of the Reyes family. Jamie is just so relatable and youthful, which helps me personally connect with him and his character. Also, that suit? ONE OF THE BEST SUPERHERO SUITS EVER. It is just so beautifully crafted, and very comic accurate. The acting was on point and felt very natural, especially from Xolo, Lopez, Sarandon, and of course, Nana Reyes. I’d put Nana up there with Princess Leia and Ripley as empowering females in cinema. Anyways, the acting was great. The VFX was extremely solid for the most part, though there’s a couple very small noticeable spots. But that’s always the case. Lastly, the soundtrack was absolutely awesome, with a great theme that makes you want to punch through a wall. Overall, this movie was such a fun time, and I can’t wait to watch it again. I’d highly recommend it to all CBM fans, especially since it’s one of the best DC movies in recent years. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
