Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Rosemary’s Baby
I seem to have a habit when writing horror reviews, which is when a movie is awful, it’s usually a very short review. In this case, it’s one of the greatest horror movies I’ve ever seen, which is why this will be short. I legitimately don’t know if I can put into words why it’s so great. The last time I’ve been this astounded by a movie is when I watched ‘Eraserhead’. The entire vibe of the movie got so under my skin, like a sense of impending doom. Something was wrong, but you couldn't figure out what. It’s one of the best visual and emotional aesthetics that I’ve ever seen. My head is still swimming. The story was remarkable, with fantastic pacing and one of the best slow burns that lead up to a crazy climax. My gosh. The acting was fantastic from everyone, especially Mia Farrow. The fact that she wasn’t nominated for an Academy Award is absolutely criminal. I’ll be sending in a strongly worded letter to the Academy shortly. Ok ok, I’m gonna stop now so I don’t give anything away. Just know it’s one of the greatest horror/thrillers I’ve ever seen in my entire life. It’s inspired generations of filmmakers, and I can see its influence in many modern horror movies. The acting, the story, the tone, the cinematography, everything. It’s phenomenal, and I would recommend it to all horror fans. I’m for sure gonna rewatch it so I can find all the hidden clues that I missed the first time. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it NOW!
