Batman and Robin (1949)
Batman and Robin
Although not a continuation of the 1943 Batman series, it remains very similar to the first series. There is a new cast and new music, but even though it’s different from the first ones, it feels like it could’ve easily been a sequel series. Unlike the first series, this wasn’t made for propaganda reasons, and this was around the time when DC comics were popular. Therefore, they decided that Batman and Robin should live on. The overall story of this serial was really dumb and cheesy, much like the first series, but once again, that’s what makes it so fun to watch. Robert Lowery as Bruce Wayne/Batman was decently good, although this is probably the worst live action Batsuit that we’ve gotten. Now it was 1949, so they didn’t have a lot of money or material to work with, but it still turned out pretty decent. Anyways, Lowery played a good Batman, and although his Bruce was pretty stale, he was still somewhat solid. However, I couldn’t stand Johnny Duncan as Robin. He looked super old, and was the exact opposite of what you want from Robin/Dick Grayson. Robin is supposed to be this youthful ward, but the Robin in these episodes just seemed like a random guy who followed Bruce around. Overall, the series was dumb and corny, like the first one, but still somewhat fun to watch.
