Creep (2014)
Creep
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a movie that lives up to the title so well. The greatest thing about it is how it doesn’t rely on excessive jumpscares, gore, or super duper disturbing stuff. It’s literally just the vibe that gets you. The aura that’s given by Mark Duplass’ performance, with the woodsy setting, is awesome. It was kind of like ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’, where it almost solely relies on the mood and tone. I also love how it’s found footage. It starts out as a simple documentation, and only goes downhill from there. That’s all I’ll say about the plot, because you need to see it for yourself. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but the whole atmosphere is one-of-a-kind. As mentioned, Mark Duplass does a great job. His performance seemed so effortless and natural (which it was). I love how he’s just some ordinary dude, but it always feels like something is wrong, or something awful is about to happen. There’s nothing better than that. Overall, this movie is great, and though nothing special, it does a good job of being ominous and eerie without a big budget or over produced scares or special effects. Kudos to Patrick Brice and the crew, and I’d recommend this to most horror fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
