The Wolverine (2013)
The Wolverine
This definitely isn’t the most popular X-Men movie (or the best), but I sure as heck loved it, and it’s my favorite of the franchise so far. Ever since the very first movie, I absolutely loved Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. You get to see him in the X-Men trilogy, then you watch his origin story. Now, you get to pick up where he left off after the third movie, and continue from there. The character progression is awesome, even if the movie doesn’t entirely have the best writing. Every second he is on screen, he brings some kind of manic energy, even when he’s cool and collected. His presence is monumental. It’s also my favorite version of his character so far (though that will definitely probably change). One complaint I do have was the third act. I was hugely loving the plot, up until the last 30ish minutes. It wasn’t bad, and still entertaining, but kind of stupid. It took the movie a little too far past reality. I mean yes, the movie is about mutants, but the third act kind of killed the dark and gloomy vibes. It was a little too space age-ish, but still fun to watch. Also, one of the main villains was way too rushed, and disposed of too quickly. Anyways, all of that takes a huge chunk from the Movie Score. But besides that, I think it was pretty well written, and a great change of pace for the franchise. I love how it all (mostly) takes place in Japan, which is a great change of scenery and culture. It kind of felt like ‘The Karate Kid 2’ meets Marvel. There’s a lot more I want to say, but I’ll hold my tongue until you watch this. Overall, it was very exciting, with great action and one of my favorite opening scenes in a CBM. I’d definitely recommend this to superhero/Marvel fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
