Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
I’d definitely say that this isn’t a necessary sequel, and doesn’t really add that much to the Beetlejuice storyline. If this sequel wasn’t made, it doesn’t change the outcome of the first, or anything like that. However, this was still a really fun sequel that has a lot of great characters, physical makeup, and morbid themes. Tim Burton came out swinging, and landed a pretty hard punch. Like I just said, the overall storyline isn’t affected much by this, and at times, the main plot felt too crammed and scattered. Not in a huge way, but I felt like there were several things going on that kind of clashed. It’s not poor writing, it just felt bland sometimes. But, I still liked the direction it went, and had a fun time. Expanding the afterlife with more characters and just the overall aesthetic was cool and pleasing to the eyes. The film remains true to the original and Burton’s style by having great colors and practical effects/props. All the character designs were fantastic, both the returning ones and the new ones. Willem Dafoe in particular. I love how it’s just him with his brain sticking out. Speaking of the cast, they all did a good job, and Michael Keaton shines as always. He’s not as memorable as the first movie, but still hilarious. The return of Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara was awesome, and of course, Jenna Ortega was Jenna Ortega. I want to marry her. Danny Elfman killed it with the score again, with his unique touch very evident. Overall, this movie was a great sequel, and though nothing spectacular, it was entertaining and I loved all the characters. It’s not as good as the first, and the first is still my favorite, but it’s still very solid. I’d recommend it to everyone who likes horror/comedies, and especially if you enjoyed the first Beetlejuice. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
