The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
The Dark Knight Rises
Although the movie overall is decent, this is one of the most boring comic book movies I’ve seen. It’s highly overrated, and the only way you can get me to watch it is if I do a Dark Knight trilogy binge. The story itself isn’t too bad, and I actually like most of what was written. But, it just seems too slow and boring. I find it super hard to pay attention too, as it just goes on and on and on. The concept of the plot is great, but I just think it wasn’t executed very well. I also didn’t care for any of the characters at all. The only ones I actually enjoyed are Batman/Bruce, Bane, Gordon, and Blake. Everyone else seems bland, especially Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle. Although I think she’s a good physical fit, she absolutely doesn’t do anything for the character. I can’t stand her at all in this movie. I think Tom Hardy as Bane was a great fit, however. I like his design, and though it’s not close to what’s shown in the comics, I still think it’s pretty sweet. He has a more grounded look, almost like how he may look if Matt Reeves was in charge. The music is also great. Hans Zimmer does a fantastic job, and he caps off the trilogy with a heroic and entertaining score. It definitely presents itself in great ways, especially in the climactic scenes. Two specific things I really can’t stand in this movie are The Bat and the ending. Although I love The Bat’s design, I think it totally throws off the feeling of the movie. In the first two, you get a very realistic feel, whereas when The Bat is introduced, it just makes the movie feel science-y. I think it was a poor decision to include it. The ending was also very unorthodox, and not something we’ve ever really seen in a Batman movie. I think the direction of it was good, but I’m just not a fan. Overall, this movie doesn’t cut it for me, and I’d much rather watch Batman and Robin than this. However, I would still recommend it to all Batman/DC fans.
