Her (2013)
Her
I’ve been waiting many, many months to watch this. I’m very glad I’ve finally gotten the chance to see it, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. I’ve never heard a single bad thing about this movie, and for the most part, it was extremely good. The movie is such a beautiful combination of sci-fi and romance, with perfect blends of both. It’s one of those sci-fi movies that definitely feels out there, but is also very down to earth and actually realistic. Especially in today’s time, this movie is extremely relevant. The presence of AI is very close to how AI could be perceived in 2023. Both useful yet powerful, and even scary. But in this movie, it’s comforting and feels like a warm blanket in many scenes. It’s kind of freaky how by the end, I felt like Samantha was a legitimate person with a body and true emotion. She just feels so real, and Scarlett Johansson is to thank. Her voice is so soothing and calming. She gets in your head in a good way. Also, Joaquin Phoenix is super relatable in this. He gives one of his best performances I’ve seen. I guarantee you almost every man who watches this knows exactly how Theodore feels (not about the AI, but just love in general). Joaquin is just so gifted. Story-wise, I’m not gonna say anything solely because of how personal this movie felt. It’s so plainly written, but the amount of feeling it puts out is crazy. Both in ways that make you feel happy as well as sad. My only complaint about this movie is how the dialogue starts to feel a bit drawn out and repetitive. Sometimes it gets a little bit old, but not that often. Overall, this movie was extremely well made, with great performances, and ridiculously visuals and cinematography. Such a beautiful film. I’d highly recommend it to all sci-fi/romance fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
