Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Thor: The Dark World
This is the second Thor movie, and it wasn’t as impressive as the first one. It was decently made, but I definitely found myself getting restless through certain scenes. There were a lot of great scenes that I loved, but there were also several chunks where I had a problem paying attention. I didn’t really care for the story that much, and it felt really cliche. To me, it was just a bad guy taking his army to destroy the universe, which is a pretty common theme in action movies. There wasn’t anything super special about it, but I did like the characters and effects. I never cared for Thor in the beginning, but he’s definitely starting to grow on me. I think he does much better in this movie than he did in the first Thor. Tom HIddleston continues to be awesome as Loki, and I like what they did with his character in this movie. He continues to bring one of the best auras I’ve seen and felt from a movie character, and he’s definitely one of my favorite Marvel villains at the moment. I also really loved Christopher Eccelston as Malekith. I’m definitely biased, because I really liked Eccelston as the 9th Doctor in Doctor Who, but he still does a great job. He has a pretty good performance, and his makeup is really cool. Every single second he was on screen, I was totally hooked. Because of his design, and his people’s designs, this movie felt a lot like Lord of the Rings to me. Of course, the movie has Asgard, so it already has a mythological feel, and the inclusion of the Dark Elves makes this feel like sci-fi LOTR. And of course, Natalie Portman was great to see, and that’s mostly because she is really hot. The effects were great in this movie, and it really gives the movie a fun feel. The action sequences were also exciting. One of my favorite things in the movie is the scenes where there are the spaceship battles. It’s really nice to see that in a superhero movie, and it’s a great change of pace. But like I said, there were several moments where I was bored and I was having some trouble watching. The music was pretty great, and though there wasn’t anything super special about it, it helped add some intense feeling to the more climatic scenes. Overall, this movie was decently good, and though it will be awhile before I watch it again, I would still recommend it to Marvel/superhero fans.
