The Apprentice (2024)
The Apprentice
This is certainly a film that’s going to stick with me for a while. I both understand why, and not, at the same time. The first half was almost a bit of a comedy that plays into the characters and their relationships. And then, the second half almost feels like a horror movie. Nothing scary, but seeing the rise of an extremely powerful, narcissistic, and sleazy businessman, and the way his actions were presented, really got under my skin. The whole vibe was just so off, and I can’t even explain how. That’s what I meant when I said this film will stick with me. The last scene especially. The overall writing was decent, with time jumps that aren’t entirely noticeable but still make sense. The story focuses on Trump’s relationship with Roy Cohn, and then his relationship with Ivana and general business. It’s simple, but lays out the very…..interesting man that he is. Sebastian Stan does an absolute immaculate job, and I was extremely surprised by how well it turned out. I had some slight doubts, but Sebastian knocked it out of the park. His pure aura on screen was crazy. The same goes for Jeremy Strong. Despite this movie being about Trump, the spotlight was on Strong every second he was on screen. Fantastic acting from everyone involved. But my favorite part of the entire movie was the way it was shot. It was set in the 70s and 80s, and the style of shooting, the scenery, and slightly grainy vintage look was perfect. You felt like you were actually there with the characters in New York City. Authentic and realistic. Overall, this movie was well made, with phenomenal performances and an interesting story. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but still very solid. I’d probably recommend it to most drama/biopic fans. Plus, it has one of the best movie posters I’ve ever seen. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
