The Maltese Falcon (1941)
The Maltese Falcon
Often regarded as one of the greatest noir's to date, this is one movie that definitely had one of the better stories I’ve seen in a film. It involved murder, thievery, betrayal, and all of the above. It definitely held a lot in the plot, and the writers did a great job. Bogart played his role almost perfectly, and he really matches the role of a private detective. I especially loved Peter Lorre’s character in this film. He has such a unique voice and accent, as well as unique characteristics which help him play such great, quirky characters. The music was decently good, but nothing super special. The cinematography was also pretty good too. I would say that my favorite part of the whole movie was the fact that it all revolves around a little statue of a bird, and even though we only see it for a couple minutes in the whole movie, it has such a presence throughout the film. I did get just a little bored through certain scenes, and even though the plot was very intriguing, the dialogue felt just a little slow. This is definitely one I would recommend to everyone who enjoys mysteries and old movies. I don’t think I would watch it again, but I’m definitely glad that I’ve seen it. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
