The Godfather (1972)
The Godfather
I definitely waited too long to watch this movie, and I definitely wish I had watched it years ago. I mean, it's 'The Godfather'. Everyone's heard of it. And it's called one of the greatest movies of all time for the reason. Personally, it's in my #2 spot of greatest films of all time. It's perfect in every way possible. You name the category, and it's perfect. The book is really good, and this is a rare case of a movie doing the book justice, and arguably, an even better job. The story is just so good, and it's because of this movie (and a few other reasons) that I love the Italian culture so much. Crime families are so interesting to watch. Seeing the Corleone family grow and fall apart is one of the best experiences you'll ever have. Moving on, the cinematography is phenomenal in this, with breathtaking shots all throughout. It's one of those movies that isn't just strong in dialogue, but also very strong in visuals. The characters are all wonderfully written, no matter how evil or hot headed they are. For instance, even though Sonny is a jerk and has a quick temper, his death is still tragic, painful, and gut wrenching. The entire cast does an amazing job, and I'd like to give a special shout out to Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, and James Caan. Those three were literally born for their roles. Finally, the score is one of my favorites of all time, as it's full of love, pain, suspense, tragedy, and pure beauty. Overall, one of the best movies of all time, with perfect writing, portrayals, visuals, and drama. I definitely recommend this to all movie lovers, and it's one of my favorite movies of all time. This film is officially Berry Approved, so watch it now!
