Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
I knew absolutely nothing about this movie going into it, so everything was brand new and fresh for me. And I am absolutely glad I didn’t know anything, because this was such a fun movie to experience for the first time. I very much enjoyed it, as it provides an interesting story, as well as an awesome fantasy element. Although still a part of the MCU, this movie had a much more different feel to it, because of that fantasy element. My favorite thing about the entire movie was how it investigates a new culture. This isn’t your typical superhero movie where the buff white guy has to save the day. You get a full taste of Chinese culture, which I absolutely loved. I’ve always really liked seeing and learning more about Chinese culture, and this movie does a great job of building the story off of it. I also really like how the story uses folklore and ancient legends to help move the plot forward. It kept the movie interesting, even during the slower scenes. The costume design was extremely good, and like I said before, it gives you an excellent glimpse at Chinese culture. The entire cast was really good as well. I seriously enjoyed Simu Liu as Shang-Chi. Even though I know nothing about Shang-Chi’s character (aside from what was shown in this movie), he’s definitely in my top 10 of favorite MCU heroes. Liu embodies him so well. I also enjoyed Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh in their respective roles. The effects were gorgeous, and the visuals were stunning. It’s definitely a colorful and vivid movie, even in the physically dark scenes. The CGI used for all the animals was fantastic, and their designs give the movie an awesome feel. The fight scenes were extremely well shot, and the choreography was some of the best I’ve ever seen in an MCU film. The presence of martial arts really spiced up the movie, giving it a new feel that other MCU films don’t always have. The music was also pretty good, although there were some points that seemed a tiny bit bland. Overall, this was a gorgeous and exciting movie that I’d definitely recommend to all MCU fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
