Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. (2023)
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.
This was a perfectly expected movie. My guess is you have no idea what that means, so let me explain. When I say perfectly expected, it means it is quite literally exactly what I expected. From a critic standpoint, I think this was a well made movie. It’s based off of Judy Blume’s book, which I haven’t read, so I couldn’t tell you how accurate it is. But it’s a very nice coming-of-age movie for young girls. That being said, there were many scenes where I felt very uncomfortable. It dealt with a lot of…feminine situations. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but as a male, it just felt really weird watching this. The only two main reasons why I wanted to watch this was because of Rachel McAdams, and because I wanted to see more 2023 films by a female director. Because of that, I wasn’t entirely prepared for the content, but it was shown pretty tastefully. I don’t feel like I can say much more, both for spoilers, and because it’s kind of strange for me to be thinking and writing about. Moving to the cast, everyone did a fantastic job. Rachel brought an exceptional performance, as did Abby Ryder Fortson. They both do a great job of putting you in their shoes. Also, Kathy Bates was hilarious and so heartwarming. Overall, this movie was well made, although from my personal perspective, it definitely wasn’t always my taste. I would recommend this if you like coming-of-age movies. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
