The Hunger Games (2012)
The Hunger Games
I am truly amazed why I waited this long to watch this franchise. I’ve only ever heard good things about these movies, and I can see why. Of course, this is the first one I’ve seen, so I can’t speak on the others yet. But just based on this one alone, I have high hopes for the rest. I’m very excited to see how Katniss’ story will progress, and where she goes after this (physically and character-wise). Now, I haven’t read the books, so I can’t speak on accuracy, but I imagine there is a lot of stuff left out. I’m definitely interested in checking them out now. I’m always a fan of source material. Anyways, the story is absolutely fantastic, with a very original touch. If you haven’t seen this movie, then I won’t say why it’s great, because it’s a very gripping plot. I love how it’s futuristic while still feeling like it’s in the past. It’s a really cool mix. The time in which this is set feels very exaggerated, similar to movies like ‘Back to the Future Part II’ or ‘Star Wars’. It’s very silly, yet almost realistic. All the characters add to that corniness, but you can still feel the very serious tone. Their clothes, designs, and environment is so goofy, but in an awesome way. It works for the best. It’s so elevated, yet so down to earth. That’s hopefully a good way to explain it. The acting was fantastic as well. Everyone does a good job, and Jennifer Lawrence steals the show. Even when she’s not in a scene, you’re still left thinking about her. I also really like Josh Hutcherson too, though my thoughts on his character aren’t clear yet. And, seeing Woody Harrelson and Jack freaking Quaid was amazing. I could go on about this movie, but I’ll save some thoughts for the next few movies in this franchise. I’d highly recommend this to all action/sci-fi fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
