The Three Stooges (2012)
The Three Stooges
This is a criminally, and I mean CRIMINALLY, underrated movie. I remember when it first came out, and I thought for sure I would never watch it. A huge chunk of my childhood was watching the original Three Stooges, so this movie is definitely personal to me. I didn’t think it would be good, and I thought it was just a cheap remake. But let me tell you, it is absolute gold. The story is definitely a bit dumb, but it’s right on line to what an original Three Stooges episode would’ve been. It has the classic “do the right thing but horribly screw it up” comedic feel. Also, having a Three Stooges movie set in the modern world is a bit interesting, but it works really well. Watching them try to figure out the city and new technology is hilarious. The movie definitely has the same feel as the original episodes, minus the whole modern-age thing. All the characters are hilarious, especially Moe, Larry and Curly. In terms of casting for those three roles, it’s literally perfect. Chris Diamantopoulos (Moe), Sean Hayes (Larry), and Will Sasso (Curly) pay perfect tribute to the original three. Their voices are all spot on, their looks are spot on, their mannerisms and movements are spot on, literally every bit about them are spot on. Normally, I’m usually skeptical when it comes to actors portraying a previous celebrity. But in this case, I’m so happy that they pulled it off the way they did. They give the movie the exact same feel that the original three gave their episodes. I also loved the inclusion of Larry David as Sister Mary-Mengele. The music was fantastic, as it has some modern day sounds, as well as the original theme songs. I also really loved how the movie uses the same sound effects as the original episodes. It also used a lot of the same gags and lines from the episodes. Because of that, this movie doesn’t feel like a remake, but a tribute to the original three. I couldn’t have asked for a better job done. Plus, the movie is broken into three episodes, with intros that copy the original intros. It’s so cool and awesome if you’ve seen the original three. Overall, I would highly recommend this to all comedy fans, especially if you love the Three Stooges. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
