Halloween (1978)
This has gotta be one of the greatest horrors ever made. As one of the most iconic movies of all time, Michael Myers is usually what comes to mind when you think of “slasher films”. He’s such a cool, creepy, and infamous killer, and I love the way they made him a stalker before he kills. Throughout the first half of the movie, you never really get a clear picture of Michael, which I really like, because it builds suspense. I also like the lack of backstory for his character, because it helps create a mysterious feel around him, and you never find out why he does what he does. And like I said, I absolutely loved the way he stalks his prey before he moves in, and it makes him absolutely terrifying. The way he creeps around, pops up, then immediately disappears is so fantastic. Also, his mask is just so cool, and even though it was a cheap Will Shatner mask painted white, it is really frightening. The overall story is simple, yet intricate. There were some pretty creepy shots throughout the movie, but the best part was the music. John Carpenter did a great job with the score, and even though it was simple and repetitive, it was really spooky. It perfectly sets the Halloween mood, and I love the way the movie actually takes place on Halloween. Many horror movies take place during random times of the year, but having an actual horror movie set during the actual day of Halloween is awesome. Overall, this is one of the greatest horror movies ever made, and it keeps you on your seat throughout the entire picture. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
