Beautiful Dreamer: Brian Wilson and the Story of SMiLE
This is easily one of my favorite documentaries that I’ve seen, and even if you aren’t a fan of Brian Wilson or his music, it’d still be really enjoyable for music fans. When SMiLE was released in 2004, it was immediately recognized as one of the greatest albums to ever be released, and won Brian Wilson a Grammy. Because of the legends and bad vibes surrounding the album since 1967, it went untouched for 37 years, making it the most infamous unfinished album in music history. This documentary does a really good job of detailing the different aspects of the album, including the music, the history, and writing, and recording. It also does a nice job of introducing Brian and his early years, including his writing of Pet Sounds. The documentary had a whole cast of notable names, which really helped show how important Brian Wilson is to so many people. It also went into lots of detail of the actual recording of the album, including several minutes of footage of the writing, as well as the studio recording. I would definitely recommend watching this to all music fans, and it makes you appreciate Brian’s work and contribution to music so much more. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
