Pulp Fiction (1994)
Pulp Fiction
I’ll go ahead and say it: I think this movie is slightly overrated. Not by much, but it didn’t grip me as much as I was hoping it was. Maybe it’s possible I got my expectations a little too high, or maybe it just wasn’t what I was expecting it to be. It was definitely a good movie, don’t get me wrong, but I had two two problems with it. The first one was the film length. It felt very drawn out, and I know I checked the clock several times. That leads me into my second complaint. There were a couple scenes that didn’t feel like they added that much importance to the movie, and in my opinion, if they were cut out, it wouldn’t have changed very much at all. I’ll move on to the good stuff now. The writing was extremely well done, and very smart. The way so many different characters were connected, while still getting their own spotlight at different times, was very nice. It worked out nicely for the direction. It keeps you guessing while still providing enough to keep you up to speed. Now I couldn’t tell you precisely what the movie was about, but I still enjoyed the story. The acting was awesome, with both (somewhat) tragic performances, but also comedic ones, too. The line deliveries were just fantastic, especially from Travolta and Jackson. Those two are one of the best duos I’ve ever seen in a movie. I will say this, I didn’t enjoy the movie as much when they weren’t on screen, even though I love Bruce Willis and Uma Thurman. Their stories were good, but Travolta and Jackson took the cake. Overall, this movie was very solid, though I think a little overhyped in a certain sense. But I also understand why people rave about it. I can see myself coming back to this one at some point in the future, and I’d most probably recommend it to all crime/thriller fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
