The Purge (2013)
The Purge
One of the most fun and even frightening movies I’ve seen, I really enjoyed this one, and the story was so good. Every character felt important and each had their own special role. I especially enjoyed the Polite Leader, who gave me some very Riddler/Joker vibes, which I really liked. I also loved Ethan Hawke in this one, and I love how his character was written. The best thing about this movie is that it shows how far someone might go to protect their family, as well as how their decisions might become warped in certain situations. I was a little disappointed, because I was hoping that the Purge was a first time and random event in the movie, except that it turns out it happens once a year. That actually makes the movie even better, because it adds a sense of normalcy as well as wrong-doing. I also loved the way that the movie immediately jumps into the story, and it gets quick to the point, which helps keep the intense feeling constant. There were several really good jump scares, which I was not expecting at all, and even if you took them out, the movie would still be really suspenseful and frightening. The music was decent, and it was absent in many scenes, which made the movie feel so much more real. The end was especially awesome, and (without spoiling) it really makes you ask yourself about the decisions you make. Overall, I’d easily recommend it to everyone.
