The Exorcist (1973)
The Exorcist
Widely regarded as the scariest movie of all time, I can definitely say I was a bit disappointed, and though it was well made, I got very bored and wasn’t remotely scared once. There were really only two things I really enjoyed. One was the music, which was consistently impressive throughout the entire film. It also has one of the most infamous main themes, probably in cinema history. It’s very spine tingly, along with a sense of adventure as well as suspicion. The other thing I really enjoyed was the overall artistic design of both the house, as well as Reagan’s demonic makeup. They did such a good job with making her look sick as well as strong. I can certainly understand why this movie is considered as scary as it, mainly because of Reagan’s possessed look, as well as her acting. Her possession felt really authentic, and made her role feel really realistic. In terms of the rest of the scariness, I didn’t think anything besides her was scary at all, and I can honestly say there wasn’t a single moment where I was scared in any way. I guess for its time, it was really intense and frightening, but compared to other things, it seems really laid back. It was still a beautifully made movie, I just didn’t particularly enjoy it as much as others. I would definitely recommend it to horror fans, but it's not one I would watch a lot.
