The After (2023)
The After
I saw the little “Oscar Nominated” banner on the poster for this on Netflix, so I watched it real quick. And now I understand why. It goes by pretty fast at only 18 minutes long, so this review will be quick. It’s very tragic but teaches a lesson on how to handle grief, and how everyone may not seem ok. It does take a good chunk of time leading up to the final moment that punches you in the gut, but it’s all worth it. There’s great acting from David Oyelowo, and after the 20ish minutes you see him, you feel his pain in a personal way. Overall, this was well made, with great shots and writing. It tears you down while still giving you hope at the end. I did find the middle a tiny bit slow, and nothing crazy impressive, but it’s still put together very nicely. This short film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
