American Fiction (2023)
American Fiction
I’ve waited so long to watch this, and now that I finally got the chance to, I’m so glad I did. It’s one of the funniest movies of 2023, as well as one of the most serious. It’s one of the most perfect blends of comedy and drama that I’ve seen in a long, long time. You get a scene that’s just hilarious, and the tone will then immediately shift to the most serious thing you’ve seen, and then it pulls you right back out of it. It wasn’t overbearing, and just the best mix. The story was so well written, and the Oscar nominations this movie got were very well deserved. In fact, I don’t think I can even put into words how good it was written. It had literally everything in it. Basically every emotion possible was felt during this. It gets you sentimental, then alerts you to real world problems and social issues, and it’s all strung together with perfect comedic bits. The acting was phenomenal, and Jeffrey Wright really puts forward one of his best performances. The entire cast helps add so much depth to the movie. I love how you get a different spectrum of attitudes for each character, even though a lot of them are related in the movie. Also, the way this movie jokes about white people is awesome, and pretty realistic. Lastly, I loved the score, because it has such a great combo of jazz, swing, blues, and more. I loved the high quality sound, even if it isn’t always super prominent. Overall, this movie was freaking amazing, and I’d highly recommend it to everyone. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
