Rabbits (2002)
Rabbits
I’m fairly certain that David Lynch is the only man who could take three humanoid rabbits and make them remotely interesting, and at times, even scary. I’d seen some small bits of ‘Rabbits’ when he featured them in ‘Inland Empire’, but I finally got around to actually watching the full thing. Technically, it’s supposed to be split up into 9 little episodes (it was a web series). But on YouTube, you can watch them all together, back to back. I love it that way, and it makes it so much smoother. From the very second to the very end, there’s a huge feeling of dread and suspense, and the incoherent yet understandable dialogue helps deliver that feeling. The sound design is absolutely amazing, and extremely chilling. It boosts the atmosphere so much more than you might think. The lighting was really good, especially with the fiery hole and the red demon thingy. I also love how the rabbits seem to pop against the background colors, so they’re the center of attention. Overall, this is such a fantastically made series, and one of a kind. You won’t ever see a horror/sitcom about rabbits like this ever again. It’s like the adult, mature, surreal version of ‘Max & Ruby’. I’d recommend this to everyone to see at some point in their life. This is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
