Ms. Marvel (2022)
Ms. Marvel
This is the highest rated MCU project on Rotten Tomatoes (at 98%), which I can kind of understand, but for me, it wasn’t anything super special. It was definitely well made, but it felt like just another MCU series. A teen girl who becomes a superhero and has to figure out how to use her powers, and save those around her. That’s a very simple and easy summary of the show. The part that makes it great is that she’s a Muslim American. You get to experience a new culture, instead of just seeing another random white superhero. It also has great commentary of the treatment of Muslims in America. But besides all that, there’s not really a memorable hero or villain in this. Ms. Marvel is really cool, and she’s a great character. But the show takes too long truly establishing her, so I never really got attached until the final episode. I did like the high school setting in Jersey. The VFX were also pretty solid, and the way the show is bright and vibrant was nice, and fits the tone. Overall, it was a good show, but nothing groundbreaking. It does make me somewhat excited to watch ‘The Marvels’. This show is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
