Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
Not only is this the best Indy movie in the series, but I would even consider this one of the greatest movies ever made. It’s so ridiculously good, it’s not even funny. If you’ve never seen it, then you are seriously missing out. Now technically, there are a few very minor discrepancies, but I’m willing to overlook them because of the sheer magnificence of this film. Temple of Doom is still my favorite, but this one *just* barely misses taking the number one spot. I really love the entire story, and how it deals with Nazis and artifacts. As a serious enjoyer of WWII history, these movies are so special to me, because of how they take historical basis and use that to make a fun and adventurous journey. Following Indy’s adventures are just so awesome. In terms of casting, Harrison Ford is literally the most perfect man for this role, period. I wouldn’t want anybody else to take his place, and this series is what really made me love him. He brings grittiness as well as some slight comedy to the role. It’s just perfect. I also really like Karen Allen and John Rhys-Davies in their roles as well. Everyone does a great job of contributing to the story. And don’t even get me started on the score. John Williams showed up and made one of the best freaking soundtracks of all time, no debate. The main theme is powerful, heroic, with a small touch of mystery and sweetness. It stays that way throughout the whole movie, which only builds the awesome feeling it gives. The effects and makeup are also pretty good, especially for 1981. The final Ark scene (you know which one) is easily the best scene of the movie, maybe even the best of the franchise, even one of the best of all time. I could rant about this movie all day, but I will leave it here for now. Overall, it’s definitely one of the best movies ever made, and I would highly recommend it to literally everyone. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
