Gladiator (2000)
Gladiator
This was so much better the second time. For some reason, I really didn't care for it the first time. It baffles me why, because this film is amazing in almost every aspect. There are so many scenes that I really enjoyed, such as all the fighting, or dialogue between certain characters. Of course, I couldn't tell you how historically accurate this film is, but for me, the writing is impeccable. Ridley Scott definitely delivers a well crafted movie. The story is sort of your typical revenge plot, but in it's own unique and historical way. The characters were awesome, and both Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix delivered fantastic performances. Personally, Joaquin was the highlight of the movie, despite the awesome mission of vengeance that Maximus takes. I’m just very biased because I really, really like Joaquin. Putting characters aside, the action scenes were easily the best thing about the movie. The opening battle was thrilling, and all the gladiator fights were super exciting. Well shot and visually pleasing. It's just such a beautifully constructed film. Overall, this movie was well made, and could be argued that it's Ridley's best. If you've seen it, and you didn't care for it, let it digest in your brain and go revisit it. I know I certainly changed my mind about it. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
